If you're considering building a custom home I recommend that you find a set of house plans that
you like before you begin interviewing builders. This will allow you to show the builder specifically
what you want in your home, and allow the builder to make a more accurate budget for you. This
will also give you additional time to study your plans and decide if there are any changes you'd like
to make before you begin construction.
When you choose a set of stock plans out of a draftsman or architects catalog the price should
be around $600-900 for a 2200 square foot home. If you make changes to the stock plans expect
to pay slightly more. If you design a custom home your plans should cost around $1100-1600 for
the same size home.
